(Prior to his appointment as Chancellor of the University of Sharjah on 01-20-2014, Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Sciences, UOS, UAE, from 2010-2015.
Also Prof. Al- Naimiy served as Acting Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences & Dean of the College of Sciences, UOS, UAE, from 2008-2010. and served as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences , UOS, UAE,from 2006-2008.

Prior to occupying different positions at the University of Sharjah, Prof. Al-Naimiy worked at different universities in the UAE and the Arab world :

General Secretary of Arab Union for physics & Mathematics 1984-1990.Prof. Al-Naimiy obtained the Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from The University of Baghdad; 1971. He graduated from Manchester University; UK with the Masters degree in Astronomy and Doctoral Degree in Astrophysics in 1975 and 1978 respectively.
Prof. Al-Naimiy is well known internationally for his contributions to teaching and research in the fields of Applied Physics, Astronomy and Space Sciences. He has won several regional and international awards in recognition of original research and for innovations that led to advancements in his field of specialization. Some of these awards are:
Khalifa Award for Education 2009/2010 (In the Field of Higher Education & Research).
Korea Astronomy & Space Science Institute Plaque, in recognition of his contribution to the 2009 UN/NASA/ESA/JAXA workshop on Basic Space Sciences and the International Heliophysical Year 2007, September 22nd , 2009. Daejeon/Korea.
NASA Plaque in Recognition of his contributions as the Coordinator for the Asian & Pacific region on IHY2007, for the period 2005 – 2009.
UN appreciation letter for scientists who displayed excellence in organizing the UN/ESA workshops. The 3rd UN/ESA/NASA workshop, Tokyo/Japan, 18th – 22nd, May, 2007.

Also he has more than 500 TV interviews to his name. He taught many different courses in Physics, Astrophysics and Space Sciences in many Universities (UK, Iraq, Jordan and UAE); chaired many Scientific organizing Committees for International and Regional conferences; attended more than 100 International and Regional Conferences and was the General Coordinator for the Developing Science Teaching Project for secondary school teachers 2009-2015. Also he has extensive editorial experience in science related journals such as :- Editor in Chief / Bin Al-Haitham Journal for Science and Technology / 2005 – 2006.;Member of Editorial Board / International Journal for Applied Physics / India 2004 - to date.; Editor in Chief / the Universe Magazine, Issues by the AUASS, 2005 - 2011.Editor in Chief / International Journal for scientific Research / Faculty of Science, United Arab Emirates University, 2001- 2006 and Editor in Chief / Science Magazine (مجلة علوم) / Iraq (1989 – 1994).

Prof. Al-Naimiy is an active member in many International Societies and Organizations that deal with Astronomy and Space Sciences. Some of these societies are: The International Space Weather Initiative (ISWI) Organized by UN/ESA/NASA/JAXA , September 2009 – 2012( as UAE National coordinator),; UAE Representative for the IAY2009, Supervised and implemented by International Astronomical Union and UNESCO, 2009; Regional Coordinator and UAE representatives / IHY / NASA, 2005 – to date ; the Higher Council in the International Astronomy without Boarder Association 2004 – to date ; International Society of Searching for Intelligent life in the Universe 1981 - to date; International Astronomical Union 1980--- to date and the International Variable Stars Society 1980 - to date.

Prof. Al-Naimiy has contributed in the establishment and building of many active projects related to Astronomy and Space Sciences; some of which are: Sharjah Astronomy Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences , 2013-2015 ; Albayte Institute for Astronomy and Space Sciences; Ibn-AlShater Astronomy Park, Al-Albayte University, Jordan 1994-2001 .; Maragaha Observatory, Al-Albayte University , Jordan, 1995 .; The Iraqi Astronomical Observatory , Korek Mountain , North Iraq , 1980 – 1990, which was the 10th largest Observatory in the world in that time.)

(Professor Haik has over 25 years of academic experience in senior academic administrative positions ranging from a program director, department chair, dean, associate provost, associate vice president and provost. His academic appointments include Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Professor of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering and Professor of Medicinal Chemistry. His academic affiliation includes Harvard, Texas A & M University, University of North Carolina, Florida State University and the United Arab Emirates University.

Prof. Haik is an experienced curricular, program and college development leader. During his career, he developed several new colleges, incepted new programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels and developed numerous new courses. Prof. Haik is an experienced ABET program evaluator.

Prof. Haik is an internationally recognized scholar in nanotechnology. His research focus is in the synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials for a myriad of applications including biomedical sensors, diagnostics, imaging and energy. His scholarly output includes over 300 peer-reviewed scientific articles, over 80 issued patents and patent applications and a number of textbooks. His scholarly output was recognized by a number of prestigious awards including the HH Sheikh Khalifa Award for Distinguished Scientific Research, Arab Creativity Award-Thought Foundation, ISESCO University Research Development Award, Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is recognized in the top 2% of scientist in his field.

Prof. Haik served as editor in chief and on the editorial board of over dozens of international journals. He also served on the review panels for the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Health, the Executive Agency for Higher Education-Romania and the Research Council-Canada. Prof. Haik has BSc, MSc and PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a Juris Doctor degree.)

Prof. Maamar BettayebMember
Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies

( Professor Maamar Bettayeb received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in 1976, 1978 and 1981, respectively.

He worked as a Research Scientist at the Bellaire Research Center at Shell Oil Development Company, Houston, Texas, USA, in the development of seismic signal processing de-convolution algorithms for the purpose of Gas and Oil exploration during 1981/1982. From 1982 to 1988, He directed the Instrumentation and Control Laboratory of High Commission for Research in Algeria, where He led various research and development projects in the field of modeling, simulation, and control design of large scale energy systems, specifically, model reduction, identification and control of computer-controlled systems with applications to nuclear, solar and electric power systems.

In 1988, He joined the Electrical Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
He has been Professor at University of Sharjah UAE since August 2000. He also held the position of Advisor to the Chancellor for Graduate Studies and Scientific research for the Years 2004/2006 and Director of Research and Studies Center for the Year 2005/2006 at University of Sharjah. He is currently Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies at University of Sharjah. He was the Conference Chair of ISSPA 2007, has been the program committee chair/co-chair for several conferences. He was Associate Editor of the International Journal of Modeling, Identification and Control. He is the leader of intelligent systems research group at University of Sharjah. He also led the development of the Strategic Planning for Research at University of Sharjah. He has published over 300 journal and conference papers in the fields of control and signal processing. He has also supervised over 50 M. Sc. and Ph. D. students.

Professor Bettayeb was External Examiner for Electrical Engineering Programs at the University of Malay, Malaysia, for the years 2001-2004. He also held a Visiting Professor position at Helsinki University of Technology, Finland, for the years 2001-2003, where he delivered graduate short courses, research seminars, workshops and participated in Ph.D. examinations.

Throughout his career, Professor Bettayeb received ample recognition for his work in the form of awards and honors, such as the Best Distinguished Research Award in 1993-94 and 1998-99, and the Outstanding Advisor Award in 1996-97 at KFUPM. He also received the Best Researcher Award at University of Sharjah in 2001-2002, 2006-2007, 2007-2008 and 2010-2011, the Best Research Paper Bank of Sharjah Award in 2003-2004, the Best Research Project Award in 2006-2007, supervisor for the Best Student Paper Award, supervisor for the Best Student Project Award in 2006-2007, supervisor for the Best Master Thesis Award in 2009-2010 as well as the Best Teaching Award at University of Sharjah in 2011-2012.

He has been consulting for the Petrochemical Industries and has also been involved in various R&D funded projects in the areas of control and signal processing applications. His recent research interest is in H∞ optimal control, rational approximation, signal and image processing , process control, networked control systems, fractional dynamics and control, nonlinear estimation and filtering, soft computing, wavelets, renewable energies and engineering education.)
